The interest in education and training in prevention has led to the development of different types of curricula for prevention workforce in recent decades. Such curricula are intended for both lifelong (continual) training and university education, in terms of both specialisation (prevention as an area of specialist training for various professions such as education and psychology) and qualification (where prevention is studied as a major). The UPC curricula, with all their existing variations, are becoming increasingly commonplace and successful. The UPC was originally developed by Applied Prevention Science International (APSI) with funding from the US Department of State to the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme. The shortest version/modification is EUPC (the European Prevention Curriculum. A broader variant is provided by the UPC Core modification. The UPC Managers and Supervisors Series and the UPC Practitioners Series modifications are also available.
